Eye care

Many women over 50 years of age are concerned over dark circles and bags under their eyes. There are many causes, some of them have to do with your genes. Some of us inherit bags and dark Circle's while others of us may suffer from allergies and sinus problems that tend to exaggerate the circles and darkness around the eyes.

The problem, whether it is a genetic predisposition, or caused by allergies, can be helped somewhat by using an eye gel and doing some gentle massage movements around the eyes. Be very gentle when massaging around the eyes. Always start from the outside of the eyes - and move in toward the nose. Use gentle tapping movements to aid in the micro circulation around the eyes. Using a mask designed especially for use around the eyes would be very helpful. One of the best eye masks is made by Matis, Paris.

Avoid consuming salt - it can cause water retention. Avoid too much alcohol - this can also cause the bags to look especially heavy. The only permanent way to solve the eye bag problem, (because of the fat deposit in that area), is to have the fat pad removed by a plastic surgeon. This would of course eliminate the problem.

The truth about make up foundations

i know the latest craze in make up foundations is mineral make up. The proponents make claims that it is a sunscreen and better for you than a liquid foundation. While it is a convenient way to package make up - the truth is, most, if not all make up foundations, whether it be liquid , cream, or powder are all sunscreens because they contain titanium dioxide, and other minerals found in sunscreens.

I deal with hundreds of women - hands on - not through infomercials. I have seen mineral foundations work for some - but not for all. It can end up being extremely drying for women with dry skin and can cause breakouts due to the oxides contained in the mineral formulas that give it a "shine." It is not a one size fits all foundation. You must select a foundation based on your skintype and skin condition.

Liquid foundations are just as easy to apply - just use your fingers or a sponge to apply. There are just as many preservatives in a mineral foundation as there are in liquid or cream foundations. Read labels, or go to websites that describe what the regulations are for the sale of cosmetics to the public. Remember this, while the FDA does inspect carefully all products imported from a foreign country, Americans cosmetic companies are not required to submit their formulas to the FDA for approval.

SUN PROTECTION

For the hot summer months, sun protection is a must. Remember that sun exposure can be a factor when skiing or doing any outdoor sport. Tanning is a natural reaction of the skin when exposed to the sun, in order to protect itself against UVA rays (pigmentation) and UVB rays (radiation). Sun exposure also introduces free radicals onto the skin, further speeding the aging process. Using a proper sunscreen will help prevent skin cancer and premature aging.
