Healthy eating for your skin

When asked what influence genetics have on aging, most people often guess wrong, thinking it is a percentage that is higher than what it really is.  Your genes only play 33% in your aging.  A larger percentage is controlled by your lifestyle i.e.. the amount of sun exposure, the amount if exercise, the amount of sleep that you get, your stress level, and of course, what you eat.

The key to great looking skin is, of course, all the factors mentioned above and also a diet that contains anti-oxidants, omega 3 fatty acids, and good old protein.  I recommend broccoli, salmon, olive oil, avocado and lots of fruits and veggies that are very colorful.  Limit alcohol consumption and drink lots of water to prevent overall dehydration.

*Women undergoing chemo therapy and radiation treatments need to eat a healthy diet of fresh veggies, lots of broccoli, lots of fish and foods rich in Omega 3 fatty acids.  Avocados are great for the skin.  Skin gets very dry and needs a good moisturizer.

Eyeliner for women over 50

I have had several women in the past week ask me about make up for women over 50plus. They have either read about makeup in magazines or have watched a makeover on television on women over 50. One of the areas that is always in question is whether one should use an eyeliner and eye makeup. There are no hard fast rules on eyeliner. I frankly believe that as we get older, our eyes need to be played up more. As we mature, our lashline is diminished. We tend to have shorter and fewer lashes. An eyeliner really should be renamed "lash definer" .... for that is the function of an eyeliner. I see eyes come to life with the proper application of an eyeliner. There is no age limit to looking good. Its like saying one should not wear blue as we age - it is utter nonsense to put limits on what looks great on a face. We are each very unique individuals, if you have questions on what looks best on your particular face, I suggest you seek the advice of a professional makeup artist. Remember, beauty editors are not makeup artists .... their job is to write about things that the major advertisers in their magazines want them to feature!!

Benefits of Thalassotherapy

Thalassotherapy is a treatment for the body that detoxifies and hydrates with seaweed harvested from the coast of Brittany. We have been doing this treatment at Faces Unlimited since 1989. Clients that have this treatment come back for more. Very relaxing and therapeutic, this is ideal after an illness or a few months after surgery to remove toxins from your body.

Seasonal changes

Skin becomes more sensitive to allergens during the transition from Summer to Fall. If in fact you do suffer a reaction to a product, here are simple things you can do to stop the inflammatory reaction immediately.

1. Take a Benadryl or any antihistamine you can tolerate.
2. Wash the offending product off your face immediatly.
3. Apply cold compresses to face if it is hot and feels like a burn. Keep this up until the skin feels cooler.
4. Apply a topical cortisone cream - over the counter 10% works fine.

You have to work fast - do not wait. It takes around 15 seconds for the proteins in your skin to react with a full blown allergic reaction. If you do nothing, the reaction and the resulting inflammation will result in very dry skin - this will last a week. If you act fast, you will see your skin calm down within and hour.

Revitalash is causing quite a stir. The lashes on women that use Revitalash are very happy with their results. After only 4 weeks, I have personally seen remarkable growth on my lashes. Others have reported the same results. I have been using Revitalash now for 2 months and have had people ask if I am wearing false eyelashes. My eyes look great without make up - even sans eyeliner.

Revitalash was developed by a Michael Brinkenhoff for his wife who had lost her beautiful lashes due to intensive chemotherapy. A gift for his one special woman is now available to women everywhere.

Best waterproof eyeliner

I have been taking the most aerobic class - Zumba. I decided that since I perspire buckets during this workout, I would test eyeliners to see which ones held up. I tried several waterproof long lasting eyeliners and the one that won the test hands down was a cake eyeliner applied with a sealer instead of water. This liner is applied with a narrow eyeliner brush and a sealant that provides excellent staying power.
